Whitewater Never Ends

In today’s News-Sentinel there was a letter to the editor criticizing the paper for not continuing to push uncorroborated right-wing talking points against the Clinton administration:

News item: Sen. Hillary Clinton puts longtime confidante Maggie Williams in charge of her campaign for the presidency.

And our newspapers, for reasons best known to themselves, do not give their valued readers one iota on the background of Williams.

Williams, while secretary to first lady Clinton, testified before Congress that she did not remove anything from Vince Foster’s office the night he was found dead in Fort Marcy Park and take it to the Clintons’ living area in the White House. Williams gave this testimony after a uniformed White House police officer testified he had seen Williams removing articles from Foster’s office the night of his death.

Maybe they didn’t write anything about this nonsense because there’s no news there. But just to refresh everyone’s memory I’ll post the summary of the Independent Counsel’s investigation into this matter:

there was simply insufficient evidence or proof of any kind showing anyone committed perjury, made false statements or obstructed the due administration of justice by refusing to provide relevant records. Accordingly, no criminal prosecutions about this aspect of the Independent Counsel’s investigation will be brought. This matter is now closed.

Get that? Closed - let it go…

sooo…the nonsense of a police officer testified he saw maggie removing articles from fosters office, and maggie testified she did not. and both were telling the truth, and there was simply insufficient evidence or proof of any kind showing anyone committed perjury, made false statements or obstructed the due administration of justice by refusing to provide relevant records.

so it shouldnt be revisited up in the media because in the bigger picture, it will be a public reminder hillary is the only first lady to ever have been investigated? and that she testified under oath she did not recall what work she did for whitewater because it was 10 years prior (just like she didnt recall the visit to bosnia with her daughter)? because perhaps it might make people look up more on her, and be reminded of the cattle futures got-richer-quick issue? because it might show her pattern of deception and “misstatements” she and her supporters would prefer to ignore?

To the first part the answer is - Yes. There was no evidence to prove perjury or obstruction of justice. I quoted the findings of the special prosecutor directly. They spent MILLIONS investigating this and came up with nothing, nada, zip.

And the cattle futures issue is dead - let it go. A former chairman of the Chicago Mercantile exchange was brought in to investigate and found no wrongdoing. In fact no charges were ever filed in this by anyone.

As for Hillary’s involvement at the failed S&L here’s what the special prosecutor had to say:

This office determined that the evidence was insufficient to prove to a jury beyond a reasonable doubt that either President or Mrs. Clinton knowingly participated in any criminal conduct involving Madison Guaranty, C.M.S. [Capital Management Services Inc.], or Whitewater Development or knew of such conduct. The evidence relating to their testimony and conduct, in connection with this investigation and other investigations involving the same entities, was also, in the judgment of this office, insufficient to prove to a jury beyond a reasonable doubt that either of them committed any criminal offense, including perjury or obstruction of justice.

Just because Sean Hannity says something doesn’t make it so…
