Give Me A Break

So the mayor isn’t sure if bloggers are legitimate members of the media but far-right blowhard Pat White is credible enough to hold a town hall meeting?

Right…

Of course. Who else would Henry trust to misinterpret questions and turn them into softballs?

    Jeff,

Not sure where the first part of your comment came from- but the second part is obvious- Pat White and WOWO have a large following.

Great Public Relations for a DEMOCRAT Mayor to be on WOWO- he can win future votes that way.

As for bloggers being “media” in the “news-reporting” sense of that term……well, the jury is still out for me. I think that there are a few great blogs out there- but there is a lot of crap too.

    Kevin,

Fine go on WOWO but don’t legitimize Pat White as a news authority here in Fort Wayne. He’s a rightwing propagandist that will ultimately manipulate the story to fit his political view and then he’ll forcefeed that to his audience.

I listened to a bit of it. Right around 5:15 someone called in and you could tell it was a plant. The questions were being read and were scripted, (it was the about sports, sports corporation, HS, etc.). Henry had the answer on the tip of his tongue. I guess he did learn something from Hillary.

I didn’t hear the comment about the bloggers. If he did say that, it just goes to show what a shallow mind he really does have. I’ve been invited to blog at one presidential debate and if I hadn’t been sick I would have been there. I also live blogged the McCain Town Hall Meeting in Indianapolis and that was a result of an invite from the McCain camp. I was seated between the Washington Post and CNN. I already have media credentials the National GOP Convention (by invitation) and in two weeks I’ll be with a group of national bloggers “live-blogging” from the NRA National Convention. That will include a brief Q&A with Glenn beck and Ted Nugent. Again, by invitation.

I guess Henry is right. We’re just a bunch of kids playing with our keyboards. Ben Lanka and Tracy Warner are the only legitimate members of the media in this town.

Tom Henry can kiss my ass.

Jeff Pruitt: Once again, comments that are irrelevant to the post at hand will be removed…

    Jeff,

What is relevant about this:”Tom Henry can kiss my ass.” ?

    Nothing.

And yet you wonder why Henry doesn’t take blogs seriously…..

I find it quite interesting that you refer to Pat White as a “far-right blowhard.”

I listen to Pat White almost every day and to be honest with you; he is not a “far-right blowhard.” If you listen to his stances on issues you would realize that he is a moderate conservative who believes in smaller Governent and has just a dash of Libertarian in him…

He is no way a representative of the “far right.” In fact his political views are fairly close to mine and no one would call me a member of the “far right.”

    Kevin,

It’s at least directed at the subject of the post. Is it a good way to end the comment? No it is not. But I am not going to remove comments simply because they are offensive or irrational.

And let me address your final comment. It’s rather O’Reilly-esque to attribute the comments on a blog to the blog itself. In any open medium there is going to be good and bad comments but isolating individual comments to try and prove some stereotype is disingenuous.

If that were the case then the mayor certainly wouldn’t have gone on Pat White’s show. Even if you exclude the garbage he feeds his audience there have been callers that are way over the top…

I actually get all sorts of news from the News-Sentinel and Journal Gazette, no wait I get a some news from the News-Sentinel and Journal Gazette, no no thats not right, I get a little news from the News-Sentinel and Journal Gazette every week. Actually, I get the Wall Street Journal. Thats it! I get news from the Wall Street Journal. The blogs supplement it. I think I would have absolutely no idea what is going on in Allen County if I counted on the local newspapers. By the way: Fuel Hedging is the way to go and municipalities should be doing it. Present day: Gas is now $3.75 a gallon and the Newspapers STILL won’t talk about this. Guess they don’t care if we are riding horses in a few years. Garbage pickup could get messy.

  10. Jeff Pruitt on April 30th, 2008 11:35 pm

    Jim,

I’m glad you’re talking about fuel hedging as that’s something we definitely need to consider. Successful airline companies (I know, I know there aren’t many) use this strategy and there’s probably no reason the city and county couldn’t either…

Henry is *afraid* to let bloggers have access to information. I called and left Ozzie Mitson a voice mail 2 weeks ago, and he never returned my call. I know of another blogger who was promised a follow-up from Mitson that got the same treatment. No response.

The information I wanted was regarding the Clinton Street bridge. After no response from Henry’s boy Mitson, I decided to call the engineering dept and had the documents faxed to me within 5 minutes.

Henry obviously doesn’t want a transparent government and could care less that comments like this make the blogs. Department heads apparently don’t see it that way. Each time I’ve had to call Greg Leatherman he has *always* provided me what I needed.

This is no different that the Richard administration.
