Journal Gazette Lacks Full Disclosure On Maplecrest Extension Letter

Today’s featured letter to the editor in the JG comes out in strong support for the $55 million Maplecrest Extension project. Of course I’m sure it’s just coincidence that the author’s name, Bob Taylor, is identical to that of the President of Do It Best (I tried to confirm this with the JG but they did not respond). Of course Do It Best is located along the extension and could financially benefit from the project.
If this is the same Bob Taylor then it is absolutely shameful that the JG would not disclose the fact that he has a financial interest in the project when printing his letter. Unfortunately this is another example of the failures of traditional media. This abdication of journalistic responsibility is why more and more people are turning away from traditional media sources. There was a massive article in Sunday’s New York Times that discussed this topic and I’ll have more on that later…

One entrance ramp will be all over the HWI parking lot. Currently their parking lot is pretty darn full during the work day. So the loss of the parking spots will require something to happen.
My guess is the County buys the property at an inflated rate, HWI gets a new site to build on (with tax abatements), and the county will chip in extra millions to HELP out HWI.
How is this project going to help storm water issues unless it is slipped in under the project. Maybe that is why it is 55 million now.
This entire thing gets to be a bigger joke everyday it goes on.
Self serving and self interested. Bob is NOT interested in the future of New Haven in my opinion. He is interested in his immediate pocketbook without regard to net detrimental effect to the taxpayers at a time, in RECESSION economy, that we can not afford it.

A guy with the same name was co-chair of the Baseball Plus Committee that concluded(without a vote of the members) that we should abandon a 13 year-old baseball stadium which was just paid for, and sink over $50 million in a new one in downtown Fort Wayne. (This was the CEO of HWI) Is it becoming “pay-off” time?
