Allen County Democratic Party Violates Indiana Campaign Finance Law
A front page piece in the Journal Gazette on April 18th, 2008 reveals a campaign finance reporting error made by the Allen County Democratic Party. Please read the article in its entirety:
The Allen County GOP requested a legal opinion on Indiana campaign finance law from The Indiana Election Commission and based on that legal opinion decided to list more of its outstanding bills then it has previously reported in its campaign finance filings. In other words; due to the recent attention that has been given to campaign finance reporting the Allen County GOP has decided to err on the side of transparency and list each and every outstanding bill and debt that it owes on its campaign finance report.
I believe that the Allen County GOP is following the intent of the Indiana Campaign Finance law and that they should have done this in the past as well. In other words; the Allen County GOP is providing more information on their campaign finance reports then they previously have provided and their previous reports are most likely deficient since they did not list all of their outstanding debts.
The real focus of the story should have been the below statement made by the Allen County Democratic Chairman:
Bynum said the party didn’t list every outstanding bill on its report, as he didn’t believe it was necessary.
Indiana Campaign Finance Law is often vague and is unclear enough that portions of it can be interpreted two different ways by reasonable people; however, I 100% disagree with Mike Bynum, the Allen County Democratic Chair about his interpretation of Indiana Campaign Finance Law. In fact, I disagree with him so much I am filing a written complaint with the Allen County Election Board later today.
IPFW Student Dead Day Of Chelsea Visit
Update (4/19):
Stabbing killed IPFW student (JG)
“An IPFW student found dead in a Waterfield Campus apartment Friday morning bled to death, according to the Allen County coroner’s office.

Police locked down the fourth floor, as students continued to come and go from other floors and buildings in the complex.”

IPFW spokeswoman Susan Alderman said Friday afternoon and evening classes had been cancelled in light of the incident.”
Breaking News!
Ted Danson will be at the Green Frog Inn on Saturday at 4:45PM to campaign for Hillary Clinton
LMAO!!!! Did they actually send out a press release for that?
This whole “Indiana actually matters this election cycle” thing is becoming a real hoot…
Broke as a Joke
The JG reports that the Allen County GOP only has $99.05 in the bank but over $47k in debts. Whatever happened to fiscal responsibility? I’m sure those working to oust chairman Steve Shine are also trying to suppress contributions - he might be in more trouble than I thought…
McCain=Bush Commercial
FortWaynePolitics.tv?
I’ve noticed that WANE tv has a new political site - fortwaynepolitics.tv
Sucks you guys couldn’t get the .com domain huh? heh.
In all seriousness though, there’s some good info on that site and it’s worth checking out…
Wizards Radio
Every once in a while I like to listen to ESPN radio (1380 AM) to hear what’s going on in the world of sports. However during the Spring and Summer months it seems like every time I turn it on all I hear is Wizards baseball broadcasts. I enjoy going to the stadium to watch a game and suck down a $1 beer like the next guy - but radio? Does anyone actually listen to Wizards baseball? If you do then drop us a comment - specifically I’d be curious as to when and why you listen to the games…
Chelsea Clinton at IPFW
Chelsea Clinton will be in the Walb cafeteria Friday afternoon. I wonder if the newly elected IPFW student body president, Kody Tinnel, will be present and could provide us some exclusive information?

Maplecrest Extension is DOA in Washington DC
Sounds like Congressman Mark Souder has decided to save the county some money by pointing out that hiring a lobbyist for the $55 Million Maplecrest extension would be a fruitless endeavor:
Allen County’s not getting any more federal money for the project,” said the 3rd District Republican. “If they’re short, that’s their problem, not mine. It’s a local road. I’m very unhappy. I thought I’d be driving on the road by now. That was the most money I’ve ever gotten for anything. This has been a long and frustrating process”
Of course the moneyed interests are none too happy that their opportunity to bilk the taxpayer is sliding away:
“But while they’re taking time to justify it, costs are going up even more. I’m so mad I could scream,” said Eli Samaan, who retired in 2002 after 30 years as executive director of the Northeast Indiana Regional Coordinating Council.
“The feds like to see something being built. If we start doing something, it will show a need (for more federal dollars)”
Let’s see waste $44 million to get $11 million - once again - brilliant!
But what might we be missing if we don’t build this project?
