JG Chastises 11th Hour Contract

Today’s editorial echoes many of the sentiments I wrote about last night. Everyone seems to be in agreement that city council needs to get some answers about this contract:

First, the $100,000 threshold should apply to the life of the contract rather than an annual amount. The $285,000 contract should have been subject to council review.

Richard should have made the contract public when his administration approved it last December, and city officials still need to explain to City Council members and the public exactly what taxpayers are getting for their money and why so much of it was paid up front.

Why not amend the contract to $99,999.99 per year to more accurately reflect the mayor’s contempt for taxpayers?

Evert, you do have a way with words! I just loved the “Pay for 2007 on Dec. 27th” part, but the belly laugh came at the misspelling.

Mr. Richard: Would you care to repeat your statement to me on the St. Mary’s riverbank during your “chewing me out” for asking our county prosecutor to charge some of your city employees with felonies - “Kalb, this time you have gone too far - none of my employees are criminals”? Maybe we need to ask her to look again.
You know, one of the cities that was visited by our “downtown” investigation group was Providence, R.I.. Did you also know that it’s former mayor has been indited and, I believe, found guilty of fraud in dealings with their downtown improvement program?
