ACRES Says They Will Purchase Canyon Cliffs Property

The last speaker dropped a bombshell on the crowd when she announced that ACRES nature preserve has agreed to buy the property from Bodenhafer if he will agree to sell it to them. This seems like a true win-win. Bodenhafer can sell his property and yet it can continue to be undeveloped.

“If Charles Bodenhafer wants to sell 139 acres of land along Chapman Road between Coldwater Road and Richey Lane, ACRES land trust has an alternative to a housing development: cash.
During 7 1/2 hours of public hearings and meetings on the proposed Canyon Cliffs development, Sue Diefenbach, speaking in opposition to the development, announced that ACRES staff said if Bodenhafer would agree to sell the land to ACRES, the group would raise money to buy it.
Bodenhafer was not among the more than 150 people who appeared for the meetings. He could not be reached Thursday evening or this morning for comment on the ACRES offer.
ACRES’ offer was potentially the most important news during the meetings.”

Mr. Bodenhafer and his wife, have an opportunity to do something that will benefit all of Allen county and the surrounding areas — that is an opportunity to preserve this land.
Instead of a questioned financial gain resulting in a housing edition (which would surely bring further development in the future) nested along side many natural preserves. Mr. Bodenhafer and his wife have an opportunity to make an impact for the community and for generations to come with this offer.
Would not a legacy of “Charles and Sharon Bodenhafer Nature Preserve” be a more telling story for both the community and their own personal legacy, than a lingering development riddled with questions of conflict of interest within the Allen County government and Fort Wayne politics?
Please Mr. Bodenhafer make the correct decision, for yourself and the community which you have so adamantly chosen to serve. You have an opportunity and your decision will reflect upon both yourself and your beloved community for which you serve.
