From today’s JG:

INDIANAPOLIS – A study shows Indianapolis Public Schools have the lowest graduation rate for black male students among 63 urban districts nationwide.

In the 2005-06 school year, just 19 percent of black males and 19 percent of white males graduated from IPS, according to the rankings compiled by the Schott Foundation for Public Education.

Only 19% of white and and black males graduate?!? THAT is the definition of a failed school district. You can bet that anybody who COULD get out of the IPS district already has…

Not to toss stones, but one need look NO further than the comparisons between cities that have severly FAILING school systems, the amount of CRIME, and the ETHNIC demographics FOR those same cities.
Must be some truth to all this record-keeping.

    YET…

I bet it would be interesting to go look into the history of this situation. Wonder how much it has in common with the path that FWCS has been on…

Our 2007 10th grade ISTEP passing rates for black students were 30% and 30% for English and math respectively. Idianapolis’ are 30% and 25%. Not much difference. I don’t know our black graduation rates but it looks like we’re going down the same track.

If I remember correctly, my high school, North Side (1953) graduated 45 or 46 % of the class that started in the fall of 2004 and matriculated this spring. THAT’S TERRIBLE!!! These drop-outs are the next 45 years welfare rolls. And our school board spends time and money to PR Fort Wayne taxpayers about upgrading buildings!! and other BS.

Sadly, in my opinion, I.P.S. provides a stronger education at the elementary level, then FWCS. I should know I have been contracted or employed in both systems. I do I.P.S. students’ come from incredibly deplorable situations, sometimes far worse than those in Fort Wayne. Example: I had a 5th grader being sold on the streets for money. Sad but true!

But in this economy, FWCS’ test scores decrease greatly!!!!
