Kalb & Garvin On Wallen & Coldwater Tax Abatement

John Kalb and Mark Garvin both spoke against the Wallen & Coldwater road tax abatement at last week’s city council public hearing. Both of them touched on points I raised with a previous post and I want to highlight their arguments. Both made effective arguments even if council didn’t agree.

The Real Question is whether the Garvin/Kalb videos will be able to catch the “Watching Paint Dry” video on YouTube which currently has 47,998 views.

Well tax abatement discussions are not the most fascinating conversations…

The real question is…. why have tax abatements in areas that are doing well?

What’s the purpose…should we ask the state of Indiana, the City, and the County to underwrite
every area for a rebate paid by the public tax-payers? Save the abatements and spend it on the
    sewers and roads.

Mr. Pruitt thanks for shedding light on tax abatements in our locale.

If Fort Wayne City Council disagrees with what somebody is saying, I think that in itself is a pretty strong argument in favor of whatever was said.

Tim Pape’s comments during the committee discussion included a statement that “The city has very specific instructions on what qualifies as an economic revitalization area”. I am in the process of tracking these down. Unless the document called out in City Code 153.13, “procedures deemed necessary for the orderly application, administration and moitoring of economic revitalization areas” (which I have requested) spells out something different than City Code and the applicable Indiana Code, it appears that Tim may not know what he was talking about. More to come.
