Sewer Restrictive Covenant Will Remain In Place

The restrictive covenants will not be removed as the Plan Comission voted 4-3 against it. Ken Neumeister, Paul Moss and Harold Kleine were the only votes for lifting the covenant.
The head of the Sewer District is livid. Speaking to people in the room:
You can go thank them for killing Holmestead. Unbelievable - they killed our opportunity. It makes absolutely no sense. I’m not going to sit through this listen to Bill Brown ask “Why aren’t you doing this?” I don’t know why the hell we didn’t do it. We had a different director of City Utilities, the environment was different…
My final thought on the matter - Holy crap the people still can win in this community…

Thanks for keeping us up to date.
Thanks for a super job… A plain thanks is not good enough.
The joke of the matter is some of that ground in Homestead Acres could fully support “MOUND” type septic systems. A few could support regular types also. Then there is “hold and pump” tank systems.
SO WHY IS OUR COUNTY HEALTH BOARD GOT THEIR HEADS STUCK IN THE MUCK? Could it be the Board of Health be in on the game that nearly worked? The Board of Health has the powers to clean up Homestead Acres but elects not to….
Wow, the restrictive covenants will stay. Does that mean though that lots can still be developed with private sewer facilities?
Or will the lack of opportunity to extend sewer service deter building in the area.
I am absolutely shocked that this turned out favorable. I believe part of it - or most of it - had to do with getting this in the news and keeping it there. Citizens have to take a stand and fight.
We may not always win, but if we don’t try at all, then these boards, commissions, politicians, etc., will always get what they want.
One of my all-time favorite sayings is from Margaret Mead:
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
Have sat through all of the public meeting in regards to Canyon Cliffs, Homestead Acres and the sewer covenant several thing became very clear. (1)The reason Homestead Acres does not have sewers can be laid squarely on Fort Wayne City Utilities and it’s refusal to allow expansion if (a) Annexation plans are in any way threatened by Huntertown or any other surrounding municipality and (b)They cannot blackmail the recipients of their Sewer services without the recipients giving up their right to remonstrate when the city annexation (invasion) occurs. (2)The Allen County Regional Sewer and Water District is a shill organization for Fort Wayne Utilities. (3) The Allen County Regional Sewer and Water District is headed by board members that have a vested interest in expanding sewer and water coverage to outlying areas of the county due to their primary employment.
Holy crap the people still can win in this community…
Power to the peeps!
I wish the best for Huntertown residents.
This is not going to be easy for the folks living in Huntertown. A remonstrance requires citizens to organize, individual citizen’s money to fight City Hall, grassroots leadership and a public headquarters site for Huntertown folks that oppose this.
Why is there a focus on Ft Wayne City and Utilities and a reference to Huntertown residents?
After checking the map it appears that the Canyon Cliffs area is much closer to Huntertown than it is to Ft Wayne. Was any consideration made to receive sewer services from Huntertown instead of Ft Wayne? Would it be worth the extra cost to avoid annexation if they gave up their right too remonstrate against annexation by Huntertown when the time comes?
