FWP Polling

We’re going to try putting polling questions up in the right sidebar underneath the local blogosphere widget. These polls will typically deal with local policies and politicians. I understand this isn’t a scientific sampling of the entire community, but I thought it might give us an interesting insight into the demographics of FWP readers.

So if you’re reading this then please take 5 seconds to vote in the current poll. I’m not sure how often we’ll update the question - I suppose it depends on how many people vote…

I love polls! (Scurries off to take the latest poll)

I voted for Mitch, but it was very close. If you had allowed, I would have split my vote between him and Karen.

How about a ranked poll next time, where each voter can place all nine members in order from best to worst performance? Might be interesting to see if it shows anything different than the current poll.

    Phil,

I thought about that but I don’t believe the polling software allows it. It will allow multiple choices but not ranking…

Karen Goldner gets my vote. She has been a phenomenal addition to the city council.

Sorry to say it, but I think someone is purposely skewing your poll. I just don’t believe that Didier could go several days without a single vote, then suddenly receive 18 votes overnight.

It would be nice to have a poll that checks ISP adresses to make sure only one vote comes in, but I suppose that has it’s problems also. Anyway, it was a good way to prvoke thought and discusssion, but I certainly will have to agree with your disclaimer about it not being scientific.

    Phil,

I’ve updated it to check IP addresses now. It was using a different method to block multiple votes but perhaps it wasn’t working too well. I was hoping not to have to use IP addresses as that will prevent some people that share networks from being able to vote.

However, I’ll give this a try for a while. Of course jackasses that want to skew online polls can always find an easy way around the IP logging as well.

I thought I’d just try it; if it turns into a farce then I’ll just quit…
