Quick Thought of the Day

People are generally against tax increases, yet neighborhood associations continue to raise dues year after year. Balancing a budget through fiscal restraint is hard and doubly so when you have the ability and temptation to simply raise taxes (or dues)…

My association dues have risen 400% in the last 12 years, and they don’t provide any services other than spraying for mosquitoes, which is a waste of money. It doesn’t work.
We still have chip and seal streets, no street lights, well water, septics and we’re in the city too!
I’ll tell you the difference. My neighborhood assocation doesn’t have a decades long track record of incompetence and waste.
So as long as they aren’t “wasting” it then why not quadruple your dues?
One man’s pork is another’s necessity…
My covenants, like yours probably if you live in an association, limit raising dues to a certain percentage each year. Further, the owners have to vote on any special assessments. (What a novel concept!) So they can’t quadruple the dues at least not in a year. Finally, because my association is prudent, it carries a massive war chest and doesn’t need to raise dues.
