Democratric Congressional Corruption on display again

Posted by Mike Sylvester - 8/28/09 @ 10:15 pm - Filed Under National Politics

As the readers of this blog know I despise corruption.  I detest corrupt Republicans every bit as much as I detest corrupt Democrats.

Recently both major political parties have had high profile corruption cases.

I feel that power corrupts and that corruption is likely to be more prevalent in the party that is currently in power…

The Democrats are now in power and I think they are more likely to be plagued by corruption scandals.

I have previously posted about Democrat Charlie Rangel.  He is the House Democrats who is in charge of writing tax policy in the United States.  He has had to amend his tax return repeatedly after he has been caught underpaying his taxes.  You should read my previous posts here and here

There is no doubt in my minds that Charlie Rangel is a crook.

The Democrats in 2006 ran on a promise of “cleaning up Washington.”  Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was especially vocal about this.

She and Congressional Democrats have completely failed to root out corruption; in fact, they are at least as corrupt as the Republicans they replaced…

Nancy Pelosi finally had to initiate an ethics investigation into Charlie Rangel.  She put it off as long as she could; however, she eventually had no choice but to initiate one.

You should read these recent stories about the House disclosure forms that Charlie Rangel updated this week.

This guy is the Democrat in charge of writing tax law in the House of Representatives and he repeatedly cheats on his taxes.  He also just made 3 million dollars with of changes to his House disclosure forms.  He is claiming that he forgot to report HALF of his net worth.

This guy is a crook and the Democrats should remove him from his post!

Of course they won’t…

The Democrats are shattering so many campaign promises that I now think the Republicans will gain even more seats in 2010 and I am even more certain that President Obama will lose in 2012.  IN fact, I think the ONLY way President Obama can win re-election is if the Republicans pick someone as inept of John Kerry was in 2004….

I don’t think you can argue equivalence until the number of people going to the slammer is equal. It’s nowhere close at the moment…

    Jeff,

Please tell me three things the Democrats have done that have actually limited the corruption in Washington DC…

I certainly think you will see at least as many Democrats in the slammer; unless Nancy Pelosi and her ilk keep preventing ethics investigations…

In time you might be right but right now there is no equivalence in corruption given the number of convicted Republicans vs the number of convicted Democrats - not even close…

    Jeff,

    I think not…

Ithink the number of convicted Republicans and convicted Democrats is far closer than you think…

It’s not even close, especially if you include the administration officials, congressional aides, etc that were involved with Jack Abramoff.

Democrats have a long way to go - probably take about 12 years or more to catch up…

    Jeff,

I will do some research and post it…

    Mike,

I’m inclined to agree with you and think you’ll find that there are far more democrats than republicans. Take this recent case as a small example which happened just last month:

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32103250/

44 arrested in N.J. corruption probe

    All but one are Democrats

Among the 44 people arrested were the mayors of Hoboken, Ridgefield and Secaucus, Jersey City’s deputy mayor, and two state assemblymen. A member of the governor’s cabinet resigned after agents searched his home, though he was not arrested. All but one of the officeholders are Democrats.

Then look at the Chicago Machine, where Governor “Hot” Rod Blagojevich and not only his cronies, but the Chicago machine have committed crimes for decades.

On a per-capita basis, however, Illinois ranks 18th for the number of public corruption convictions the federal government has won from 1998 through 2007, according to a USA TODAY analysis of Department of Justice statistics.
