Phil Troyer for Congress

Press release from Phil Troyer campaign
(FORT WAYNE) Phil Troyer, a Fort Wayne attorney, will announce his intention to challenge incumbent U.S. Congressman Mark Souder in the 2010 Republican Primary during press conferences to be held at the following times and locations:
Chestnut Hills Clubhouse (off U.S. 14) in Fort Wayne Tuesday, November 10, 2009 @ 8:00 a.m.
Goshen Public Library Tuesday, November 10, 2009 @ 4:00 p.m.
Troyer, a former aide to U.S. Senators Dan Coats (R-IN) and Richard Lugar (R-IN) and campaign manager for Rick Hawks’ 1990 congressional challenge race, brings considerable political experience to the race. “Frankly, I had no intention of returning to politics,” said Troyer. “Working on Capitol Hill was a tremendous opportunity for someone who grew up in small towns like Etna Green and Shipshewana. However, I decided to move back to northeastern Indiana to concentrate on raising a family and building a career outside of government.”
Troyer currently serves as General Counsel for a national financial services firm whose parent company was recently named the 2nd fastest growing privately-held company in the country by Inc. magazine. “I have a great job and was not looking to change careers,” noted Troyer. “However, when Congressman Souder voted in favor of the $700,000,000,000.00 bailout of Wall Street, I decided someone needed to do something.”
“I began researching Congressman Souder’s record on spending and was profoundly dismayed at what I found,” said Troyer. “He may talk like a fiscal conservative when he is back home in Indiana, but he votes like a big spending liberal when he is in Washington. Republican voters need to know the truth about Congressman Souder’s record on spending, and at the press conferences announcing my candidacy I will provide evidence of just how bad it really is.” Specifically, Troyer will offer documents representing fifty (50) spending votes from the past three (3) years - ranging from the $700,000,000,000.00 Wall Street bailout to $50,000.00 for the National Mule and Packers Museum in California - where Souder voted to increase spending and he would have voted to cut it.
For Troyer, the decision to run came down to a simple consideration. “I have a 9-year old daughter,” noted Troyer. “Working in the financial services industry, I understand the negative impact the exploding federal debt is already having on our economy. If we do not do something to control federal spending quickly, the dollar will continue to weaken and interest rates will rise to encourage foreign countries to continue servicing our debt. That will not only lower our standard of living but jeopardize our national security. As a father, I cannot stand by idly while career politicians like Congressman Souder jeopardize the future of our children and grandchildren with wasteful and selfish porkbarrel spending.”
“Having worked on Capitol Hill and on congressional challenge races, I understand the power of incumbency,” remarked Troyer, “but I also know the power of truth and the anger voters feel when confronted with hypocracy from politicians. I am confident that, when voters learn the truth about my opponent’s record on spending, they will no longer support him. My mission for the next six months will be to ensure people understand what he is really doing in Washington so they can make an informed choice on May 4th.”

I’m curious why you posted this Mike. Since it’s known you’re a Souder “hater,”, maybe that’s it. Or maybe because your old buddy Matt Kelty is working behind the scenes on Troyer’s campaign?
Or, maybe both?
Long live the “Kelty Kongressional Kooks.”
Oh, you forgot to mention the Ron Paul loving Rachel Grubb.
Mark A,
Or maybe I posted it because it is a press release concerning a local race…
Mike
Is it true that Kelty is working for this campagin? That’s a deal breaker for me.
I’ll give you that. I guess this means you have no opinion?
Mark, I was going to ask what the A stands for … but it is quite obvious.
BJB,
I take it that means you’re a Kelty fan.
Phil Troyer will make a fine United States Congressman ! Its about time we get rid of the Republican wannabees who snuggle up to liberals every chance they get. When I found out Matt Kelty might be involved with Phils campaign it got me exicited too ! Matt was framed by the liberal media and is innocent of all the crimes he may have been directly involved in at the time of the Mayors race. They had it out for Matt from the beginning and you know it !
Like I tell my grandkids all the time this country needs more God fearing men who will stand up to the crooks who are involved in evilness and unholy acts of dirty hand washing. You can take that to the bank !!
Keith Cumtwa,
I have no idea who is working on Mr. Troyers campaign!
I have no idea why Mark A. stated “Matt Kelty is working behind the scenes on Troyer’s campaign?”
Maybe Mark A. has a source he would like to share with us… Otherwise I just assume he is ranting…

Mark A,
I have not yet decided who I will support in the 2010 Congressional race.
There are at least three declared candidates in the Republican primary (assuming Souder runs again). There is a Libertarian candidate who recently declared his candidacy. Democrat Tom Hayhurst has also annouced his candidacy.
About the only thing I am sure of is that I am well over 99.99% certain that I will vote for someone other than Mark Souder in November of 2010…
Mark Souder is a big government Republican and I do not vote for big government Republicans.
Mike Sylvester
Milton,
Where did you hear that Matt Kelty was involved with the Troyer campaign?
The only place I have “heard that” is in the comment section of this post from “Mark A.” I personally do not know “Mark A” so I have no idea where he is getting his opinion from.
Mike Sylvester
Mike,
I may be speaking out of turn, but I was not told I could not share this. In Phil’s email to the person that received this, (I was forwarded the entire original message) there was no “do not share”, etc.
Since he’s running for office, in my opinon there should be no secrets regardless.
Here is the relevant portion.

… I am formalizing a “Central Committee” that includes Matt and some other people who have volunteered to help with strategy.

Mark A,
Well if the email mentioned Matt, and if the Matt they are referring to is Matt Kelty, then it would seem that Matt Kelty may be involved with the Troyer campaign…
I have not heard or seen anything regarding who is supporting Mr. Troyer at this time…
Mike
Mike,
I’m sure you already have a guess as to who some of the other players are in this newly formed politburo, or “Central Committee” as he calls it. I hear tell the cake baker’s son is among them.
This is a breaking news story. If this is true (who else could Matt refer to) this campaign could be over before it started.
Mr. Troyer, who are the members of the Central Committee?
Hahahaaa
The Butcher
The Baker
The Candlestick Maker!
I just hope who ever runs, can just say no! I heard today that Evan Bayh has stated he will not vote for an increase in the national debt unless there is language that addresses spending.
Too bad he did not do this from the first day he was in the Senate. Since then the National Debt has increased nearly 50%.
I say vote them all out!!! All they do is buy votes using other peoples money. This method may be hitting the term “between a rock and hard place.”
I just hope I am around to vote.
Mark A,
You must have sources close to the campaign.
I have no idea who is involved with his campaign…
All I hear are unsubstantiated rumors.
There were a lot of great people assocaited with the Matt Kelty campaign and I would hope some of them would be supporting someone other than Mark Souder.
Mike
Keith,
What on Earth are you talking about?
Mike
Mike, you said…..
“There were a lot of great people assocaited with the Matt Kelty campaign”
Besides you, can you tell me who they were? Specifically, after the primary, since most people other than the Kelty Kooks bailed after it was revealed he had all of his problems.
Why is it people fail to accept he perjured himself to a grand jury? He lied, not only to them, but to all of those that supported him.
Mike
Why would any serious candidate give Matt Kelty any important role in his campaign? Who else is on this “Central Committee”, Rod Blagojevich?
Primary: Souder 68, Troyer 32.
Mark A,
There were a ton of good people associated with the Kelty campaign. I see no reason to list several here.
That being said, while I agree with Matt’s vision and conservative thoughts; the outcome of the Court proceedings speak for themselves and were a HUGE disappointment to me…
Mike
Keith,
First off I have no idea if Matt Kelty is involved with the Troyer campaign or not. Further if he is involved I do not know to what extent he is involved…
I do not particularly care if he is involved or not. I would not suppport Matt in a run for public office after the Court proceedings; however, I certainly would be happy to meet with Matt and have a beer or discuss politics.
Mike
I would have been elated to have a beer and discuss politics with Nixon. It would have been fascinating. I would in no way, shape or form have him involved in any way in a campaign for dog catcher, much less U.S. Representative.
Regardless of what one might think of Matt Kelty personally and/or his political acumen, any legitimate candidate for congress simply cannot have a convicted perjurer and campaign finance violator at the highest levels in their campaign staff
Of course I have no idea if he is involved, I’m just stating the obvious…
kelty was not convicted of and did not plead guilty to perjury, as I recall. You really shouldn’t claim that since it’s not true.
Mark,
You’re right. He plead to false informing and admitted to giving false testimony to a grand jury.
Regardless he’s not someone that should be involved with a congressional campaign…
This country needs good men like Phil Troyer.
I have been part of this family for 20 years.
I can say that they are good people and Phil
is a good man.
If Kealty is involved at all he is lucky to
stand with a good man like Phil Troyer.
