What is President Obama doing?
I had a post that I was working on earlier this week. In that post I was going to say that I felt President Obama was purposefully passing legislation to appease his base in order to minimize Democratic losses in November. This legislation is the health care reform legislation and possibly the fact that he wants to modify “Don’t ask don’t tell.”
The mid term elections often are dominated by the Party who can energize and turnout their base. There is no doubt the Republican base is angry and energized. I thought that the President had finally realized that his Party was going to get “creamed” in November and was trying to minimize his losses.
Earlier this week I listened to President Obama talk about Iran. I am not kidding you; he sounded a lot like President Bush and he sounded militant and threatening. It was strange.
Earlier this week he also said he would lift a 20 year moratorium on off shore drilling in certain locations. He certainly limited the locations and when you look at the areas he plans to keep under moratorium it does not seem like lifting a small part of the moratorium will result in much new drilling; however, he really irritated a large part of his base; the environmentalists.
