When does a professed “conservative” act like a “liberal”?

Monday morning “Conservative Breakfast” this week featured Allen County Commissioner Linda Bloom. She expounded and bragged about how she has “traveled to Washington,DC” often to be instumental in getting “many dollars in Federal money” for her constituants in Allen County, Indiana. She also indicated that she has worked our Indiana government in Indianapolis for “State dollars” for Allen County.
Ms Bloom and at least one of her fellow commissioners, Mr. Peters seem to think that their major charge by those that have voted them into their positions is to “milk” other governmental funtions to fund our counties needs. And then they run on what they think is a ”fiscally conservative” platform! This is “male-cow excrement” in a big way!!
Any one who considers themseves as a conservative, CANNOT believe that funneling tax dollars through Washington DC to accomplish local projects, can EVER be more efficient than using those revenues locally in a direct manner! Somehow politicians have gotten into the habit of using the fiction of “Free Money from Above” as their fall-back to remove any thought of their personal responsibility for local spending decisions from their backs. As an example, the commissioner’s removal of the “bridge maintenance” funding from the Allen County budget some years ago - then asking the State to pick up this local service cost!
And the comments of Paul Lagemann( carpetbagger Coats pusher) and Paul Morrison in support of this practice (probably due to the fact that they both rely on elected politicians for their livelihood) leads me to question how individuals with these fiscal principles can ever be included in a true conservative group! And we have to place our 3rd district congressional representative Souder in this camp also.
Isn’t it about time that we get rid of ALL incumbents, just to get back on track? How else can we begin to remove the fiscally- irresponsible cross we are loading on on children, our grandkids, our great-grandkids and their children? Our political forefathers did not foresee elected office as a life-time job! We have to correct what we have come to over the last 200 plus years- and soon - or we can just cash-in.

John,
I agree 100% with you. No one seems to be able to “Just Say No!”
PIGS are US
Portugal
Ireland
Greece
Spain
United States
People complaining about cutting $300 million from school funding. People complaining about Healthcare, Social Security, Medicare, Defense, Jobs, high taxes and more. The progression has been more government, more administrative costs and larger deficits. When you walk into a mine field, you stop. You do not go forward. You carefully retrace your exact steps to get out.
However, we the ignorant public keep allowing politicians to stick it to us once again.
Interesting topic. I found this online the other day:http://www.thefourthbranch.com/2010/04/government-spending/
Funny how many GOP states receive more federal tax dollars than they contribute……
Why blame Peters and Bloom for trying to get our money back? That’s the way the system is set up and they’re just playing the game. As long as we allow our selves to be taxed by the Feds and the state, they can redistribute the money (less the handling fee) to further their poltical aims. If you get highway money, they set your speed limits. If you get education money, they tell you how to run your schools (actually not such a bad idea). But I’d rather see the money come back here rather than, say, to California.
As long as we keep voting for people at the federal and state level who perpetuate this system, why fault locals who play the game?
Evert - Because we have to start somewhere - and the closer to home the easier to accomplish! WE DID NOT “HIRE” (or elect) Peters and Bloom to get as much out of our collective hides through Indianapolis & Washington DC as they are able to do. Let’s stop the dollar HERE! And, in case you missed it, note my comment about our 3rd district congressman!! Him we can shed in 3 weeks! JUST DO IT!
Well said Mr. Kalb, hence my years long buyers remorse regarding Mr.Souder among others. Our system is indeed now back-asswards and while it has evolved into “thats just how the game is played” it clearly can’t go on much longer.
John,
“Because we have to start somewhere - and the closer to home the easier to accomplish!”
I have said this to the New Sentinel every year I spoke with them. I have said it in the 2008 Debate with Souder. Souder’s response was along the lines that if he did not ask for earmarks then we would not get our share. I guess when we get “our” share we are also agreeing to pay “our” share of the debt that goes along with it.
We either stop it or it will be stopped by others who will quit lending the US money. When that happens it is too late.
I would likes to see every incumbent whether democrat or republican replaced with a new representative and it would be refreshing if they had no political experience at all, but common sense.
