Congressman Mark Souder Resigns

You can read a copy of his resignation letter here.

In his resignation letter Congressman Souder admits to having an affair with a part time female staffer.  His resignation from Congress is effective as of Friday of this week.

An interesting quote from the letter is:

I SINNED AGAINST GOD, MY WIFE AND MY FAMILY BY HAVING A MUTUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH A PART-TIME MEMBER OF MY STAFF.

Once again my heart goes out to Congressman Souder’s wife and to the “part time female staffer’s” husband.

Fort Wayne Observed has an excellent explanation of how the 3rd District Congressional Seat will be filled for the remainder of the term and how the new Republican nominee will be determined for the November election.

After just watching his statement on 21 alive, he makes Tiger look like a saint. What a ASS… he came across with the I broke no laws, the poisonious atmosphere of DC, yadda yadda yadda. This coming from the guy who ran on family values. Despite this affair being out there since Feb. he manlipulated the system because he didn,t like Bob Thomas and thought the 3rd district deserved better (Can you say control freak ). Can this guy be a bigger Moron

If he spent less time preaching about morals and spent more time practicing his morals, then he wouldn’t have been in this situation. Again, another politician who feels he is above the standards he holds for everyone else.

His wife, children (if any), and Bob Thomas are the ones who got shafted. Now it’s time to elect another moral police candidate so we can have more of the same. Make sure the candidate is against gay marriage, because that’s immoral.

WOW! You would think that old school republicans would get it some day. There will never be a change until ALL the old school is cleaned out.

I’m laughing at all the Koolade gulpers who penned their name to letters to the editor saying things about Souder going to their church.

I guess the furniture salesman can now endorse mattresses or something. I can just see it now: “introducing the new 3rd District mattress set, so firm you can screw your mistress and your constituents with no sagging.”

I’m fairly new here. If so many people on both the left and right dislike Souder (I consider him a national embarrassment), why does he keep getting re-elected?
Have the Dems simply failed to run a decent alternative?
