Is President Obama “weak” on terror?

I have heard several Republican pundits and Republican politicians claim that President Obama is “weak” in regards to prosecuting the “war on terror.”
I have no idea what these “morons” are talking about. Consider the following:
1. We have just as many troops in the Middle East under President Obama and a Democratic Congress as we had under the Republicans.
2. We are spending even more on our military under the Democrats than we spent under the Republicans.
3. We are spending FAR MORE on Homeland Security under the Democrats than we spent under the Republicans.
The “war on terror” is insane and should be stopped. It serves absolutely no purpose except putting our troops in harms way, killing a bunch of civilians, and killing a few terrorists. It is wasting hundreds of billions of dollars that could be better spent.
President Obama has continued the policies of his predecessor in regards to the “war on terror” and that is shameful.
I do not know why the Democrats in Congress are not continually lambasted by the “Peace Wing” of the Democratic Party. The Democrats are hypocrites in this issue in a big way.

After 9/11 we went into Afghanistan to chase down and kill Osama bin Laden, the supposed kingpin of an organization known as Al Qaida which, according to the CIA, hijacked our airplanes. We now know that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed planned and carried out 9/11.
We also know from the the Soviet war in Afghanistan that bin Laden’s mujahideen mercenaries “fought rarely and badly” against the Soviets (and for that matter, later against American troops). We also know that the Afghani’s are among the fiercest fighters in the world who did not need the Arab “help”.
We also know now that OBL has been dead for a long time. And finally, we know that the feudal nature of the Afghani tribes will never permit “nation building,” so we need to let these folks continue their century-old territorial skirmishes and get back to growing poppies full time.
As long as the American battle plan is to “not shoot” combatants, we cannot “win” that war. So I agree that we need to leave both Iraq and Afghanistan in these economic times.
BTW, you might want to read “Osama bin Elvis” by Angelo M. Codevilla, which covers in detail what I outlined above. He also wrote “Americas Ruling Class - and the Perils of the Revolution.” Both essays can be found at The American Spectator.

I’d have to say “inept” is much more accurate.
War is not what it used to be. WWII lasted from December 7, 1941 to August 9, 1945 (Nagasaki). the dropping of the Atomic bombs saved my dad’s life. He was off the coast of Japan as part of the first wave of the planned invasion of Japan. Clearly had the bombs not been dropped I would not be here today.
In WWII there was a goal, move from the coast to Germany and push forward everyday, securing what you have repatriated and moving forward again the next day. In today’s “war” we seem to jump in the middle picking a spot to fight. Rather like “RISK” where we roll the dice and gamble.
I have no doubt that had we not gone into Afghanistan there would still be camps to train terrorists. Maybe instead of sending troops over there we should have spent the money on strikes to take them out as they were built. If we leave without a stable country, the terrorists will return.
What is plainly clear is those terrorists have no regard for their lives or anyone else’s. Fighting a war on those terms is difficult to say the least.
The war on terror is a classic example of mission creep. The troops were sent to fight terrorists, but found themselves fighting drugs instead. Fighting opium in Afghanistan is like fighting sand in Saudi Arabia.
If Afghanistan is a sovereign country, then their government should be allowed to deal with opium and the Taliban as they see fit. Our involvement should be limited to hunting terrorists.
